Students’ National Executive Committee (SNEC) Congress ‘09

This year's SNEC Congress came off in the Upper East Region on the Navrongo Campus of the University for Development Studies from the 10th - 12th of April, 2009. SNEC is made up of the Presidents and Secretaries of the 31 campus fellowships of GHAFES. This year's SNEC Congress recorded a representation of 29 fellowships and 85 students in attendance. The theme of the congress was " The Role of GHAFES in Modern Christianity", and the main speaker was Ing. Magnus Quarshie, the in-coming Executive Council Chairman of GHAFES. As usual, the General Secretary and the Training Secreataries also took the opportunity to exhort and train the student leaders.

The main speaker's address was centered on the topic "The Role of GHAFES in the 21st Century". He laid emphasis on the nature of man in the pre-modern, modern and post-modern era. He taught that, in the pre-modern times, men sought the face of God in every endeavor of their lives. He sighted Noah, from Genesis 6 & 7, as an example of such men who set himself to live righteous before God. In Hebrews 11, it was accounted to Noah as righteousness. In the modern era, men belied that they can do certain things for themselves - the industrial revolution. In this era, men sought to solve their own problems, leaving God out of their lives. But now, in this post-modern age, people believ there is no God! He advised the we ought not be post-modernists, but rather take advantage of the mindset of people to help them know God. In this era, where we are being bombarded with all manner of information, we are to choose what to listen to. He challenged us to live in a manner that will transform the lives of others. We were again challenged to do situational witnessing. Thus, taking advantage of whatever situation we find ourselves, at anytime, to witness to others about Jesus Christ.

The student leadersalso had the opportunity to present their situational reports to the house. After each presentation, some time was permitted for questions and answers concerning each report. The student leaders also had the opportunity to table their concerns about the traning Secretaries. Much was discussed as to the advancement of the ministry.
